2023 Grand Reopening
In late 2021, I received an irrefusable offer for my day job in game development so, long story short,
I packed my bags and moved across the continent from Orlando, FL to Vancouver, BC, Canada!
Unfortunately during the move, I had to sell most of my controller-building equipment.
Over the course of 2022, I joined a local makerspace and slowly began to rebuild; improving on prior techniques
and even picking up some new tricks to make controllers even better than before!
So… what’s new?
Direct UV Printing
Faceplate art is one of the most unique ways to showcase your individual style and aesthetic. While I have always offered high quality printing on heavy-weight photo/poster paper and vinyl, I am now working closely with a local shop to introduce a new printing technique: direct UV flatbed printing! In short, the art is printed directly onto the polycarbonate faceplate and looks indescribably amazing in person. It is printed in reverse on the underside of the faceplate so that the top surface protects the print.
CNC and Laser Cutting
For years, I have built my controllers “by hand” using printed layout templates, a drill press, and a dream. Since joining the local makerspace, I have had the opportunity to start using tools with much higher precision: namely CNC routers and laser cutters. In addition to an overall quality boost in fit & finish, this precision allows for much higher alignment accuracy between the art and faceplate (like the perfectly centered red backdrop around the buttons in the controller pictured here).
Case Design Improvements
I will not claim to be the world’s best woodworker. But I have steadily worked on boosting the consistency, quality, and durability of my cases throughout the years.
The woodworking tools at the makerspace allow me to capitalize on a number of useful techniques: CNC’d side panels, mitered corners, an inset baseplate, and more!
TL;DR
After more than a year of putting my Stickless endeavors on the sidelines,
it's about time for a grand reopening!
